Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the rules of exponents for most of the time. He knows what to do but I'm not sure he understands why. I want to teach him why but I'm afraid it will overcomplicate things. For science, I gave him a worksheet to help him with the water cycle. We read and worked on hurricanes as well."
"We went over her homework for school, and she'd done a very good job with it. We then spent the majority of the time focused on homework I had assigned her out of her workbooks. There was one reading assignment about nouns that she had trouble with, so we talked quite a bit about nouns and how to distinguish between nouns, verbs, and adjectives. We also went over a few math problems she'd missed--they were not hard for her."
"We went over her homework from today, correcting the problems that she had gotten wrong. We then continued on with her second homework set on UPSE problems. She is quick to understand the topics! The session went well!"
"We went over her homework, which was combinations. I made up some problems similar to her homework to help review. At this stage, the best way to solve these problems is to make an organized list. She was getting the hang of it by the end the session. This is a new skill and will take some practice before complete mastery. I reminded her that items said in a list will have commas separating them. Overall, we talked about problem solving strategies for her to do independently or if she gets stuck on what to do first. 1.Visualize the problem 2. Reread the question 3. Start drawing or making a list. It was nice working with her! She is a very bright student."
"We went over multiplication and division today, as well as telling time. On Thursday, we will work on reading comprehension. Her parents are worried about her progress in reading comprehension and science, so we will continue to focus on those areas."
"We went over some math and word problems. We also worked on reading and cleaning up. He has a little trouble with reading and sounding out words. He seems to rush through items and that makes it challenging for him to finish."
