Session Summaries by Trigonometry Tutors

Wyoming, WY Trigonometry tutoring
Today was a great session. First, the student and I did his math homework. It covered the same material that we went over this summer, so after a bit of review, he remembered it and was easily able to do the whole worksheet. That took up most of our hour, so for the last 15 minutes or so we started journaling. I have decided to assign him to write one page in his journal every school day, so 5 pages a week. I think this will help with his writing because it will help him be able to translate his thoughts to paper. I even challenged him to include his mom's word of the day in each of his passages. We'll see next week if he has kept up with it, but I think it'll really help him.

Today was a really good session with the student! Understanding what planes are is still a bit of a struggle, and I know that that is more conceptual, so I'll try to find other ways of explaining what planes are. After that, we focused on the Pythagorean Theorem and the distance formula for practice, and then focused on problems combining algebra and angles. She did really well on all of the problems! No issue of note, and I left her with some extra practice problems, as well, so she can continue to get more comfortable!

Today was a repeat session on time! The student and I went over various time sayings such as a half past 3 or "a quarter till 12." Each session, I feel as though he is becoming a much stronger student and learning at a faster pace. I also talked about situations where he had to spend money and how to keep track of it. By using items that he was interested in, he was able to follow along and keep track of his money. Overall, this was a very successful session, and I do believe that he will be successful with math.

Today was all review for the student's upcoming test! We spent just a little on standard form of lines before moving on to the more recent topics of graphing inequalities and working with transformations in general. He seems very prepared from what we covered today, so I left him a few worksheets for the chance that he feels the need or desire to spend some extra time practicing.
