Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We completed the student's exam review for her final. We covered log and natural log concepts solving for a variable, sketching polynomials with given parameters, and surface area. It was a joy working with her, and I hope to continue working with her next semester."
"We continued preparing for the student's upcoming exam. The review included calculating arc length, sector area, and other applications of circles. She understood the math but forgot the formulas involved. I gave her the formulas necessary to get through the problems. We continued practicing through the problems until she felt she had mastery of the topics. We spent the rest of the session reviewing similar figures and applications of proportions."
"We continued reviewing for the student's final. Today, we completed the first chapter with function transformations and compositions. He has shown very good understanding of the concepts covered in the chapter."
"We continued to cover trigonometry in this session, and the student's class has moved on to what are more commonly referred to as "Trig Proofs", which involve a lot of intuition and memorization, two things that are difficult if not impossible to teach, but can actually be tutored in some capacity. By this I mean that the student had to do a lot of "learning by example" by observing how I would start and work through problems so she could get a feel for how to do it on her own. We worked through several problems from her notes and worksheets and by the end she was really starting to understand how to start these types of problems and see them through. As with most math, repeated practice is what will ensure that she does well, especially since she still has close to 30 (if not more) identities to memorize in addition to the 20+ she's learned already."
"We continued to review the student's study guide, working through law of cosine and sine rules and practicing identifying when to use what trig identities. She continues to show progress in grasping the full semester of material."
"We continued where we left off yesterday by going over all the quizzes and materials that the student's classes had gone over. We were able to review all the topics that he felt he needed help with. He is much more confident after these past 2 days of studying. At the end of the session, I felt like he understood everything. As long as he doesn't make any mistakes, he should be able to do really well on his finals."
