Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I discussed the assignments that I gave her. She's showing that she is critically thinking more, and it's awesome. Last week, I assigned her a book to read and we analyzed the first paragraph of the book and discussed its rhetoric and purpose for about twenty minutes. We then watched a video about the value of college. We first tackled the structure of the video and then critiqued the arguments. Afterward, we did a timed prompt on the student's response to the video."
"The student and covered his essay for English class. We discussed his mid-term grades and practices some reading and comprehension. We will continue to work on the student's reading as he still needs help in this area."
"We started the session by reviewing the questions on his Of Mice and Men Socratic seminar worksheet. We then worked on identifying and creating elaborate supporting details for body paragraphs. I know this is a weakness for him so we worked through several exercises. Lastly I had him rewrite a conclusion to include a summary of main ideas, restate the thesis and analyze/synthesize the information. Overall he knows what needs to be done to write a good essay. He seems much more receptive to writing lately and is aware of his strengths and weaknesses."
"We spent the large majority of the time discussing the questions the student has prepared for her Socratic seminar tomorrow. We went over passages in the book and came up with some quotes for her to use in supporting her answers and some bullet points to include in her answers. We also answered a few questions about recognizing perfect square trinomials and opportunities to factor by grouping for her upcoming math test."
"We spent the time going over sentence structure and exercises in the student's grammar book. He is showing a nice ability to comprehend the lessons quickly."
"We spent this session understanding the core of body paragraphs, and how to write them through our American Dream essay. We reviewed the applicable concepts, and touched on the ways in which to construct concluding paragraphs."
