"We had an overall preparation for the student's coming test. We discussed (a) planning what to study, (b) what the student can summarize in the 1-page (that he can carry to the test), (c) generalizing and putting reactions in classes so that the student can retain/apply the information more efficiently, (d) resonance structure drawings, and (e) stability of radicals and their relationship with C-H bond strength. While the course is extremely tough, especially for its very fast pace, the student has seen improvement since I met him for the 1st time (5 days ago)."
"We went over her current nylon lab and previous test. She got an A on the exam and we went over the mistakes she made. For her nylon lab she had some trouble with the questions about the stability of the compounds, but after going over it she seemed to understand it. We also went over the future test material and did a few mechanism problems. I left her to go over the material we covered for when we meet next week."
"We went over Lewis structures again, as the student was having some trouble with them. He understands the concepts behind them; he just needs to continue doing practice problems to get more comfortable with them. We also discussed different types of isomers--how to find them and how to differentiate them. He should continue to use supplemental materials such as videos, as they seem to be helping him better understand the material."
"We went over nitriles and reactions of aldehydes and ketones. The student continues to have a bright, positive attitude and is picking up things really quickly. We have a plan of what content to go over before her final on Thursday."
"We went over practice tests for the student's organic test tomorrow. We covered spectra, synthesis, reactions, mechanisms, and stereochemistry. She's doing well, and I was able to give her additional hints/tricks that made recognizing some of the reaction types easier. I think she'll do well on the test tomorrow."
"We went over proton NMR and used a review packet given by the student's instructor. She is understanding the material and is able to deduce the structures of compounds based on the proton NMR, and match structures to their corresponding proton NMR."
