How can a Writing tutor help you?

In order to succeed in a writing class, students must have good language skills, the ability to generate new ideas, decent research skills, and the ability to relate to their audience. Many new writers tend to struggle with proper grammar and spelling. They also struggle with awkward phrasing, poor vocabulary, and trouble reading back what was written. Writing is an essential skill that is needed to excel in both academics and the workplace. Writing expresses who you are as a person, stimulates your brain, and makes your thought process visible. If your child is having complications in his or her writing class, Varsity Tutors can find you an enthusiastic writing tutor in Pflugerville who can show your son or daughter how to make learning and writing fun.

Each of the independent writing tutors that we could help you find in Pflugerville, TX, is an experienced professional. Upon meeting with their hand-picked private tutor, your child could undergo a series of writing tests. This will allow for the tutor to get a good idea of your youngster's current writing skills. Once skill level is determined, your child's private tutor will work to tailor lesson plans that pay special attention to your little one's weaknesses and strengths. There are many benefits to working one-on-one with a private tutor. Working with a private tutor allows for your child to ask questions whenever needed. Your little one does not need to worry about feeling embarrassed for asking questions or worry about holding back the rest of the class with their inquiries. One-on-one private tutoring is also a great way for your child to try to improve his or her self-esteem. Once your son or daughter begins to grasp concepts they were once confused with, you may begin to notice that they become more self-assured in their writing class and in their other classes that require good writing skills. Tutors can be wonderful role models for impressionable youngsters. You may find that your child develops a great bond with their tutor. In turn, your daughter or son could have a great person to look up to or confide in with their academic problems.

Session Summaries by Writing Tutors

Writing Tutoring review by Giselle in Pflugerville, TX
I first quizzed her on the words from last week. We also reviewed a story she wrote, in which she was supposed to indicate the subjects and the predicates. She read her summary to me, and she had written a good one. Finally, we completed worksheets on analogies, "there, their, and they're," and one on adjectives and adverbs. She will need extra practice with the concept of analogies, specifically when constructing bridge sentences. Her homework was to learn her new words, complete an adverb/adjective worksheet, and write a summary of what she reads next week.

Writing Tutoring review by Ruth in Pflugerville, TX
We went over the student's essay that she wrote for homework. She displayed a much better use of vocabulary in this essay. Her introduction and conclusion paragraphs also improved. We practiced brainstorming together, specifically focusing on brainstorming personal examples that she could use for her essay. For homework, I assigned her two essays prompts, since I find she benefits from additional home writing practice.

Writing Tutoring review by Matthew in Pflugerville, TX
We began working together on a document-based question (DBQ) for the student's history class. We examined and discussed the assigned documents and their significance, went over the themes and history of the period 1910-1941 in general, and talked about strategies for addressing the question posed in the assignment. He wrote several paragraphs after developing an outline that mapped out his approach to the essay. The session went very well, and we planned on meeting again soon so that I can help edit and polish the paper prior to his turning it in.

Writing Tutoring review by Sophie Paulette in Pflugerville, TX
The student showed up with her course syllabus and her first writing assignment. We went over the paper together, first looking for grammar/mechanics; most of her errors were minor, and consisted of misused commas or convoluted sentences that needed to be shortened. Then I went over certain sections in the paper and pointed out to her which passages were unclear, and which could benefit from more explaining and examples. She needs to support her arguments with concrete examples and explain why it matters. Then we went over APA citation. Finally, she talked to me about an upcoming short presentation she has this week, and I suggested to her how she could format it and what material to look for in her research article.
