Recent Allston Tutoring Session Notes

Tutoring review by Christopher in Allston, MA
During this session together, the student and I worked hard at understanding congruent sides and properties for geometry as well as calculating the chemistry topic of heat. Although there were some topics we needed to iron out, she appeared to have a clear understanding of the topics by the end of the session. She recently had a retake of her chemistry exam and felt like it went very well. This session was very productive and I look forward to working with her again next week.

Today, we concentrated on word problems. The student has been testing for several days in class, so we're trying to target his weakest areas with the intent of improving his test grades. Some of the concepts covered today included fractions, unit conversions, differences in distances, money problems and more. He worked very hard today after an even harder day at school. I'm very proud of him and have already noticed his confidence improving.

Tutoring review by Cara in Allston, MA
Today, we went over the rest of the study guide for the student's upcoming test. We drew more illustrations of DNA and RNA strands and went over the major concepts to know for the test. We also went through the worksheets that were used in between the last test and the upcoming test since that is a possible testable material. I asked him if there were concepts that we needed to go over again and she pointed out some, so that is what we worked on for the remainder of our session together.

Tutoring review by Wade in Allston, MA
Today we reviewed a practice essay the student had written. He showed a very good grasp of vocabulary and essay structure. We did some practice of coming up with examples for those prompts using his SAT prep book. Afterward, we resumed working on the math section. We practiced doing a timed math section. He was proficient with the easier math problems but occasionally was stumped by some of the harder or seemingly more difficult ones. We worked on and will continue working on practicing the math section in future sessions.

Tutoring review by Kristen in Allston, MA
The students both have math finals this week. Student 1 and I worked on the review sheet from the most recent chapter, mostly covering triangles. We got through the entire sheet, and she said she understood everything we went over. Student 2 had a test this past week, and she says she felt really good about it. She had a cumulative review packet to prepare for the upcoming final. We started from the beginning and got through about 2/3 of it- covering the material that she learned closer to the start of the year. She had lots of things clicking for her. Both sessions were successful.
