Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was the first session with the student. Eventually, I got a feel for where she is in the course. It seems the first 4 weeks consisted of a review of pre-calc topics, focusing on properties of functions and their graphs. We will continue working on transformations of functions, limits, and derivatives next week. I will put together quizzes to gauge her overall understanding of the prerequisite material, and we will put together a plan to ensure that she passes."
"This week, we reviewed for the final, which is Friday afternoon. We started with general integration, both indefinite and definite on Saturday. On Wednesday, we covered integration by substitution and trigonometric integration. On Thursday, we covered integration by parts and probabilistic integration. The student did well in the sessions. With a full night's rest, she should be able to get a good grade on her final and end with high marks in the class/quarter."
"This week, we went over study guides for the final exam for the student's Calculus course. She had some difficulty with optimization problems. We were able to work through it, and now she is confident in her ability to perform on her exam."
"Though the student just took an exam yesterday, she has begun learning new material on trig identities, specifically using the sum and difference rules for trig functions, today. She completed all her homework, which didn't seem too difficult for her. The only concept she needed to understand better was the identities, and these are just equations she will have to memorize, and this will come with time."
"To prepare for an exam, we went over some practice problems in optimization, asymptote finding, and integration by parts. The student seemed very well prepared for the exam. There were only a few fine points to improve upon."
"Today the student and I continued to discuss differentiation and integration of exponential and logarithmic functions. We had a productive session and I feel that his understanding has progressed. He is still somewhat prone to relatively simple mistakes, and will benefit from continued practice. We will continue to work on this next session."
