Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over his homework from last week and did some writing for this week. We discussed what went right and what went wrong."
"Today the student and I reviewed his thematic essay, assigned by me, on significant effects of civilizations on current societies. He chose to write about the effect of the alphabet and of the Roman Empire's contribution to government practices and law. His essay was factual but needs a lot of revision with regard to proper form and format and grammar/usage. We reviewed the essay line by line, and he will revise for our next session. In addition, we reviewed some literary terms and usages from his ELA teacher. Finally, I provided him with a review packet for his midterm."
"Today the student and I finished reviewing her Odyssey essay. She had a good first draft done, so we started by working on refining the conclusion and ensuring that she added additional analysis for each body paragraph. The Odyssey is a tough read, so she struggled a bit with this. She has great ideas but sometimes has a hard time translating these ideas into complex analysis. Talking through it seems to help her significantly. We were able to read through and fix many of her comma splices, but she needs to work on writing the sentence right, or at least more correctly, on a first go-around. She is able to recognize that a sentence needs work, so she's getting there. When I left, she needed to finish adding a little more depth to the introduction paragraph, as well as adding citations for each of the quotes."
