Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered gene regulation quite extensively as the student has a multiple choice exam on Friday on this material. There weren't many questions that corresponded to gene regulation in the qbanks, therefore we did not review practice problems. This material is difficult to understand and requires a lot of thought, however the student was doing well understanding the processes and answering the questions I was asking her. We should have her exam score by next week's session."
"We talked about applying Bernoulli's Equation to fluid flow problems. We talked about how Darcy's equation and the pump work can add terms to take into account in the mechanical energy balance. We reviewed homework problems that showed these concepts."
"We had another good session. We went over photosynthesis in plants today. He seemed to understand the material fairly well in addition to some of the material from last week. I helped him with some question answering strategies as well. I left him with some videos to supplement my lecture in addition to the chapter questions from the book. We will be meeting at the same time next week."
"The student worked on her science fair project. We researched websites and took notes on questions that were related to her topic."
"I have finally found that the student learns best from the combination of reading the material and writing it down. Taking notes will help him to do extremely well in his classes."
"The student and I prepared for a test that covers the first several chapters of his class textbook. We discussed the properties and importance of water, reviewed acids/ bases, and further discussed the various macromolecules found in organisms. I explained the concepts in a way that highlighted their importance either in an organism or the environment, at times with analogies or simple drawings. He was well-prepared and seemed interested in the material; I'm confident he will do well on his test."
