Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went through her homework on comparing decimals and fractions. We had to go back over how to compare decimals, but she picked it up again quickly. She also had trouble remembering how to convert fractions to decimals, but by the end of our session, she was remembering on her own to do out the division. I gave her homework this week to find her fraction to decimal flash cards and practice with them."
"We spent this session reviewing the concept of numerical bases. The student appeared to be engaged and focused throughout the meeting. I showed the student how to use long division remainders to convert a number from base ten to some other base (like base four). For practice, I recommended that the student review this process as well as its inverse. It was a great session."
"The student and I covered the different ways to find a solution to two equations: substitution, elimination, etc. So far, his only real issues seem to be rushing his work and a dependency on his calculator. Because of this, I tried to focus on double-checking work and only doing math by hand - even if it meant leaving an answer as a fraction or some other form. His attitude was focused and diligent. He understood new concepts and methods very quickly. He is bright, respectful, and learns quickly."
"We went over a homework skills review sheet. The student was not comfortable with simplifying numerical equations and multi-step word problems and requested that we spend more time on these concepts/problems during our next session. We will go over them in more detail there."
"We started the session working on the student's reading passage, which asked him to answer comprehension questions based on his reading. He was able to find the answer to complete it on his own for the most part. He just needed help with higher level questions. We then went over his math homework, which consisted of word problems. I showed him strategies of drawing out the problem and underlining the important information."
"The student has shown great progress with understanding how to manipulate ratios, and I'm confident that he can replicate the skills he's learned on fairly complex algebraic equations in a variety of contexts. We also spent some time working on unconditional probabilities."
