Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I had the student finish the paper on the "boy" from class, then we continued on the major essay that was due later in the semester. I assigned chapters to write a summary upon as well."
"Today the student and I continued to go over the "Grammar for Dummies" book; specifically, we discussed complete sentences, predicates, and plural pronouns. Today, he was very good at identifying the complete sentences and most of the predicates; he also only missed five questions on the homework I had left him from last session. This time, I left him with 19 questions from the "Grammar for Dummies book" about pronouns and their antecedents. He understood the 2 examples we did together, so I am confident he will do well on the rest of it."
"This 1.5 hour session focused almost exclusively on helping the student develop an outline for his essay on Harrison Bergeron and Most Dangerous Game. The student and tutor worked on the student's introduction, his thesis, and quotations related to this work. When the student had completed this portion of the outline, he worked on preparing for his upcoming vocabulary test on Friday."
"We worked on a review of an assignment regarding Greco-Roman and Judeo-Christian practices and beliefs. We reviewed what the textbook had to say about the five questions that were given out as the assignment. We found passages in the textbook to answer the questions, and then the student worked on writing the answer to the questions to get the assignment handed in on time."
"We worked on an English assignment for the student's film criticism class. Specifically, we wrote a script for her to read as a voiceover for a film commentary. She seemed fairly confident in her understanding of the movie as it relates to post-colonialism, the subject of her commentary."
"We worked on editing the first draft of the student's Thomas Jefferson essay. We identified some of Jefferson's viewpoints on government, and then formulated an introductory paragraph that was reflective of his ideologies and achievements. The student was very engaged throughout the session and implemented many of his own ideas into the analysis. Although he has an ample vocabulary, he needs to work on using synonyms and academic words in his writing. He will write a first draft by Wednesday and we will proofread and edit in our next session together as we work toward the final draft due two Fridays from now."
