Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During today's session, we focused mainly on methods to simplify the context for which the questions are presented. We completed a couple of questions and went through them step-by-step, and wrote down pointers on effective methods of approach. Her quiz will be at the end of this week. We will meet again tomorrow for a final review session, and will determine if she will need another session before her quiz or not, based on her comfort level. She states she feels more confident now and has a better understanding of the material."
"I covered measurement units, scale and basics of atomic models, ions, and nomenclature of ionic and simple organic compounds. The student was not struggling with any of the concepts above but he wanted to make sure he was prepared for his upcoming test (Tuesday) and had some questions on the homework. He was overall very receptive to the material and willing to participate in the session. Instead of giving guided summaries of the material, I decided to do an open-floor session and to allow him to ask me any questions he might have on the material. I think the session went well, and he seemed confident/prepared to take the assessment on Tuesday."
"I covered scientific notation problems and vector. The student was easygoing. We went over her assignment problem set one by one. She seemed to have understood how to do the problems. I explained the concepts behind every problem we went through."
"I discussed with student two storage electrical elements: inductor and capacitor. I addressed the formula i=C dv/dt for capacitor and v=Ldi/dt for inductor. We went over two examples to teach how to use the above formula, how to find the voltage and current of each other, and how to find the power and energy in R L circuit and RC circuit. We also used two examples to explain how to use V(0+)=V(0-) in RC circuit, i(0+)=i(0-) in R L circuit."
"I had a great session with the student this morning. We covered writing and biology concepts. We went over the main components of a good essay and what is required for effective and quality writing. We discussed good transition words and topic sentences. We explained the thesis statement and the 3 parts of an essay. We talked about DNA and the genome in biology and watched some good review videos covering DNA replication, transcription, and translation. We also did some practice problems. He had a good attitude during the session. He is getting into the swing of things with school, so once it picks up, we will have more things to cover. I will provide some writing material for him as well. He is good at retaining and understanding information."
"I met Student 1 and we looked at her IB math topics and decided this was out of my expertise. I spent most of the time working on chemistry with Student 2. We reviewed scientific notation and dimensional analysis for his upcoming quiz on Tuesday."
