Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I finalized 5 of her college applications. We worked on building her editing skills and talked about ways to cut down unnecessary "fluff" in her writing without taking away from her overall statement. This is something we will continue to work on as time goes on. Looking back at all of the written responses that the student has completed in the past month, I am very pleased with her progress."
"We discussed the student's progress on completing his Common Application and particularly his progress on the essay. We reached a decision on which essay prompt he would respond to, crafted an outline and he completed a rough draft of the essay. He will revise it this week and we will finalize it in our next session."
"Today, we worked on updating the student's personal statement to a slightly longer format so that she can use it for her job application. She added two paragraphs that were solid in content, and we worked on smoothing those out. In addition, we talked about proper formatting, and did close readings to pick out any lingering typos. Her English skills have improved rapidly, and she is becoming a much more proficient communicator."
"We broke down the prompt into two questions and worked out a two-part outline to directly answer each question. Completed the outline and transferred each idea point into 1-2 sentences of prose, creating a rough draft for use Monday."
"The student and I specifically edited and improved on four different College essays for entrance into an Honors program. Each of the essays was around 1000 words. She really worked on helping make her essays more succinct. I would make suggestions of sentences where she could afford to cut out some words and she did a great job of recognizing where she should be cutting down. She also asked for some help in the way she was organizing her paragraphs and I was happy to help her with formatting. Overall we had a great and productive session."
"The student and I reviewed her last trig quiz and then got to work on her research paper. We incorporated the peer review from in class and then other edits we had already made and tried to add in some more smoother transitions. This paper is coming to a close and hopefully the final product should be very solid."
