Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's geometry class has moved on from construction to translation and other forms of transformations. We discussed the concepts behind rigid movements of shapes and worked on his homework together. He seems to have a solid grasp of the material."
"The student's geometry homework asked him to simplify expressions which include whole numbers, variables, operations, and exponents. When multiplying variables with exponents, ADD the powers together (a^4 x a^5 = a^9). When dividing variables with exponents, SUBTRACT the powers (b^8 / b^3 = b^5). When you encounter parenthesis, MULTIPLY the powers i.e. (4x^4)^5 = 1024x^20. For further review, I asked him to please see pages 1-6 of handwritten notes/examples given during the session. Great Job!"
"The student's grade is at 72, and it does not include the last exam. We reviewed an exam sheet which includes topics, such as lines, chords, rays, segments, points, and angles. The student is not able to adequately solve quadratic equations via factoring or quadratic formula but instead rely on a calculator to solve. Also, we reviewed the proper use of protractor to measure angles."
"The students are continuing to develop confidence in their abilities, and it is a pleasure to watch. They are both very bright and creative; at this point there is as much discussion of mathematical reasoning as specific problem-solving in our sessions."
"The students were both reviewing for their geometry quarterfinal coming up, and both finished their study guide. They were eager to actually learn the material and retain it."
"The topics we covered today consist of triangle congruence postulates, formation of triangles based on side length (both numerical and visual demonstrations), and line bisectors and angle naming convention. He did an excellent job tackling tougher concepts. I would remind him to give himself a break if he doesn't grasp a concept easily. I saw that with practice, he can learn such concepts with a little patience. Overall, great work today by the student. His effort to learn the material really makes me excited to conquer new topics in geometry with him."
