Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began our session by reviewing the spelling and definitions from the student's textbook in preparation for a spelling test. Then we reviewed his math homework (word problems using multiplication, patterns, and geometry). We finished the session by reviewing the spelling of the words."
"In this session we covered a variety of problems that involved the adding, subtracting, multiplication and division of algebraic expressions that involved variables with exponents. The student was mainly struggling with remembering the rules that apply to the latter problems. After reviewing them, the student was able to solve every problem with very little problem. My main recommendation for the student was to remember the rules and keep them in mind for some problems look difficult because they are "bulky," however, the rules remain the same."
"We completed practice problems over ratios, percentages, and converting units. She had a positive attitude about the material. I used a teach back method to check her understanding of the material."
"The student and I worked through a review for her upcoming IB exams. Her teacher had given her a packet of problems, so we tried to focus on the types of problems that were giving her the most trouble."
"We covered AP statistics. Specifically, we discussed probability, definitions, and sample questions from past AP tests. The student did well overall. She had a very positive attitude and seemed very willing to learn. I did not include study strategies yet, but I am meeting with her tomorrow night and will do it then! We made a plan for exactly what topics we were to cover at our next meeting. I feel confident that she will do well on her test on Wednesday!"
"We worked on conversions, distributive property, Venn diagrams, and other pre-algebra type problems. We prepared for the assessment exam that the student will be taking at the beginning of June. She did a great job with the concepts, and she was asked to work on a few conversion problems before our next session. She was eager to learn and really seemed to understand once I was able to explain each problem in more detail. We did work on the process of elimination when taking a test, and we will work on test taking strategies in our next session. I believe that this was a great first step, and I am so excited for our next session!"
