Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we went over the division of complex numbers. The student was initially unsure of how to divide complex numbers. He tried to do his homework by himself, and he was unable to. Once the steps needed to divide complex numbers were explained, he was able to divide complex numbers. He was also able to find the rectangular and polar forms of complex numbers that included a real and imaginary part."
"In this tutoring session, we reviewed how to draw the three fundamental rays for concave and convex lenses. We also moved onto concave and convex mirrors. The student just took a quiz on convex lenses, and will be working on concave lenses in class this week. At this rate, we are at least one week ahead of his class, possibly two."
"In today's lesson we reviewed a few of the student's math homework problems before moving onto her AP Biology homework. We discussed how cells signals work, and the stages and processes of a signal being received by a cell. We completed her homework due tomorrow, and will work on remembering the information that we learned today."
"In today's session we covered K-map simplification using min-term for sop form and using max term for pos form. We discussed 12 questions on this methods. We also covered how to draw a schematic for the simplest circuit to implement."
"In today's session, I worked with the student on an assignment for her health class. She was instructed to choose a celebrity/public figure who passed away from the effects of drugs. The assignment was to write a few paragraphs on the person, the effect the drug had on his/her body, and also to design a tombstone. She selected Marilyn Monroe. We spent the session doing research online. I showed her how to gather information from multiple sources and how to cite her references. I helped her pick out important facts to include in the written portion, and she did a great job formulating sentences and paragraphs. I had assigned her some practice algebra problems previously, and she said she had little to no difficulty completing them. I hope to move onto more challenging topics in our next session."
"In today's session, the student and I pretty much exclusively spent our time on aerobic cell respiration. First, we talked about cell respiration as a whole and talked our way through the concept of electron carriers and the processes of oxidation and reduction. After this, we broke down cell respiration into its three major processes and worked our way through each one. We focused largely on what goes into and what comes out of each step, as well as the net ATP made in each of the three processes. At the end, we came back to cell respiration as a whole and wrote out the entire process as an overarching equation. He seems to have a good understanding of the topics as we work through them, but his main challenge now will be to recreate these processes himself and to memorize the important terms and names of major molecules."
