Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's exam on Friday will cover immunity, digestion, reproduction, gas exchange, animal nutrition, and circulation. We focused the majority of our time on going over the immune system in detail because this is a very conceptual topic. It was a successful session as the student was able to grasp the complex information."
"Today, the student and I reviewed the study guide she and several of her peers prepared for their upcoming test. She had not yet composed answers to the short response questions that will be on her exam tomorrow, but she has my responses as well as the study guide, which should prove beneficial in preparing. Following the exam, she and I will likely meet once a week."
"The student and I reviewed a few topics that were problematic for her on her final last week. These included covalent matrix, ionic, and metallic crystals; chemistry lab instruments; and reaction orders. We also spent some time reviewing free response questions, specifically questions involving acid/base equilibrium. She will have an evaluation on the first five chapters of her AP chemistry review book this week, and this is the topic she has expressed the most apprehension about. I think she has a good understanding of this topic and just needs some extra practice with the different types of problems she will see on the exam. After going through four different free response questions on acid-base equilibrium, she was doing very well on her own, and completed the questions with little to no help from me."
"We discussed the start of metabolic chemistry - quite a subject for high school biology! The student seems to be getting better into the swing of things and building some confidence. We'll see this week how that is going!"
"We mainly did biology work with a focus on laboratory safety. The student was scheduled to have her first lab session, so the teacher assigned multiple-choice questions that were ambiguous to answer. She was able to work through most of the problems, but had a lot of questions, and is great to work with because she is energetic and wants to do well."
"We reviewed a little bit of cell structure and function by going over his quiz, and then we went over cellular transport, which includes osmosis, diffusion, passive and active transport, and even a little bit of hyper- vs.. hypotonic solutions. He really seemed to understand cellular transport well, but he is still struggling a little with cell structures and organelles."
