Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We mainly covered word problems and lots of other algebra topics, like handling inequalities (solving and graphing), exponents (positive and negative) and percent change."
"The student and I worked on reviewing some of her algebra lessons from last semester in preparation for the start of the school year. We covered factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula. We also went over polynomial division and simplifying polynomial fractions."
"We began this tutoring session by continuing the beginning algebra, chapter 5 review. The student completed the review problems. He has a good grasp of the algebraic content in the chapter 5 review, which includes: 1) Evaluating exponents, 2) Simplifying algebraic expressions, 3) Finding the degree of each algebraic term, 4) Finding the degree of each polynomial, 5) Combining like terms in each algebraic expression, 6) Adding and/or subtracting algebraic equations, 7) Multiplying algebraic expressions, and 8) Using special products to multiply algebraic equations. We concluded today's tutoring session with vocabulary development. He and I are continuing to use the vocabulary cartoons book. Specifically, we reviewed Chapters 4, 5, and 6 today. Each chapter contains 10 new vocabulary words. The student's high quiz scores on these new vocabulary words show his high level of comprehension and understanding. On Chapter 4, he scored 9 out of 10 questions correct (90%). He did even better on his chapter 5 review. Out of the 20 questions on this review, he got all 20 correct (100%). And on his third chapter review today (chapter 6), he got all 20 questions correct (100%). He is a very bright student, and he is always focused on the task at hand. Thus our tutoring sessions are always very productive."
"The student completed the distribution problems with no issues. We worked more on factoring. This included using FOIL to find the difference of two squares. We also talked about how to go backward from a trinomial to two binomials. We talked briefly about how to factor trinomials of the form: ax2+bx+c. We'll continue more factoring next time."
"The student completed the two homework problems assigned with 100% accuracy. The student completed his final exam, so we reviewed some previous material. We worked with graphs and determining the equation given a graph and two points. Then we moved on to exponents, which the student wanted to focus on."
"We worked on factoring and completing the square as well as the discriminant. The student has good skills."
