Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked on completing her science and math homework. She was working on dominant and recessive traits in science and on converting percents to decimals and vice versa in math. She understood everything and had no trouble."
"We talked about several strategies for making math and science slightly easier. In math, he mentioned difficulty copying down notes as he loses his place looking back and forth from the screen to his computer. I suggested taking notes on his netbook by touch typing so he can keeps his eyes on the board and keeping a piece of paper and a pencil on hand to write down numbers. For science, I suggested coming up with his own examples for vocabulary that tie into his interests, specifically sports. Lastly, I suggested flash cards for vocabulary and teaching a concept to someone (or his dog) to prove to himself he knows a concept inside and out. I also requested he bring his science notebook to future sessions so we can work on it together."
"Today the student and I worked through a few subjects. We worked on a few math problems, looked at the notecards she has made, and did a couple of geography worksheets. She understands the math problems well, but it takes a while to get through them. In future sessions we are going to start doing short multiplication exercises each day so that she becomes more comfortable with it and relies less on multiplication tables."
"Today, we worked on a study guide for his biology test on Thursday. It is good to get a head start organizing his answers to the questions so he can use it to study later. Some of the questions reference specific page numbers from his book, so he will check those in class next week since the students in his class were not allowed to take the books home for the weekend."
"Today, we worked on his English packet. The vocabulary words used in the packet were very advanced, and he did a great job learning them and understanding them. We also looked over some math problems that he did. I was very pleased to find how neatly he wrote his math problems. I also found that as a result of his neat handwriting there were fewer errors in the work. He did a great job!"
"Today, we worked on math modeling with division, math reflex, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. The student did excellent today! We need to work a bit more on slowing down on the math problems. Otherwise, he's doing very well."
