Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered graphs of higher degree polynomials and graphs of quotients of polynomials. In this, we talked about vertical and horizontal asymptotes, behavior at infinity, roots, and reviewed properties of exponents. The student is happy that the stuff she learned at the beginning of the class is coming back with practical and noticeable applications."
"The student asked to start things off today by reviewing the last concepts from her pre-calculus class, including domains and ranges, inverse functions, function arithmetic, and transformations. She was able to remember most of the process with little or no difficulty, but it took some extra practice to reacquaint her with restricted domains and ranges. In our next session, we will begin looking at new material."
"The student and I covered a few problems that she was uncertain of on her homework and then we did a general review of the 4 chapters covered on her upcoming exam. We went over roots, graphing (transformations, finding maximum and minimum, vertices, asymptotes, piecewise and step), then more algebraic concepts like solving max/min word problems, even/odd functions, inverse functions and change of rate/limit problems."
"The student and I reviewed in preparation for his upcoming final. Topics covered included polar/rectangular equations and their conversions, solving for definite/indefinite integrals, and the use of vector coordinates in graphing."
"We covered limits, the basis of calculus, the Pythagorean theorem, the basis of trigonometry, the distance formula, trig functions and identities, the basis of functions, different types of functions and their graphs, and how to transform and translate functions. There were no grades but the student took careful notes and followed along very well. He was most challenged with connecting new knowledge to his previously learned skills and remembering whether he had learned things or not. I left him with a broad overview's worth of notes to study."
"The student and I started with the unit circle that she had not been thoroughly introduced to and built off of that to the material she was working on for homework. We also went back through her previous notes and clarified any confusion she had over past material. We are meeting again next Tuesday to go over any questions she has on the new material from class as well as the practice test for her quiz."
