Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on problems requiring calculations of circumference and areas of various polygons. Also, we applied the similarity theorems to various situations. The student was able to determine the reasons for the statements in proofs."
"We worked on proofs using parallel lines and vertical and corresponding angles, triangle interior angle sum, and the properties of isosceles triangles. We also worked on problems about solving for the sum of several angles using properties of full rotation (360 degrees), line (180 degrees) and triangle interior angle sum and substituting equations."
"We worked on properties of quadrilaterals and their applications to coordinate geometry and identification. The student was struggling with guessing and choosing the first one that fit instead of finding the most general answer. For example, a quadrilateral with four equal angles is a square, but in general, it's actually a rectangle. We used a family tree of quadrilaterals to facilitate and chunk the material into more manageable pieces as having a good grasp of the properties will help immensely. The extra practice is from the book as needed and finishing up the homework."
"We worked on review for his test, and I helped him revise a poem we had previously worked on. I had helped him develop his rhyme scheme and word choice. Today, we tried to make the poem more lyrical, and worked on structure, meter, and rhythm."
"We worked on similar polygons and calculations involving measures of their sides and angles. The student struggles with word problems, so I explained how to draw the figures and set up the equations from word problems to help solve and respond to the questions that are asked."
"We worked on skills with altitudes, parallel lines, and distance formula. Distance formula is new for the student, and she mastered using the formula with practice during the session. She completed most of her weekend math homework problems from the textbook and packet."
