Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began review for the student's final exam today. We reviewed several topics: domain/range, how to determine whether or not a relation is a function, how to graph piecewise functions, how to find difference quotients, finding even and odd functions, using the circle equation, relative maxima and minima, slope-intercept form, and average rate of change. Some of the material is buried deep in her memory, but she recalls it all. She is in the process of making a pretty detailed study guide."
"The student had a homework assignment on equations of hyperbolas and their graphs. She does well with this as it is very similar to the ellipses we worked on last time. We also worked through 3 pages of her take-home quiz for this unit. We will meet this Wednesday to finish her take-home quiz due Thursday. And then we will meet the following Monday to study for her test on Tuesday. After that, we will meet strictly to study for her final."
"Today, the student and I worked on her final review. She is a bright student and sometimes just needed the formula to solve the problem. Once she had that, she was able to solve the problem with ease. We looked at various problems and the appropriate ways to approach each."
"We graphed polar equations and identified their shapes. We also determined the equation after looking at polar graphs. We converted polar equations to rectangular equations using certain formulas. We found roots and powers of complex numbers using De Moivre's Theorem. We switched between polar, standard, and rectangular forms of complex numbers. Student's score is steadily improving."
"The student had an online homework session that dealt with matrices. He had attempted the homework beforehand but had gotten several questions wrong. I went over the parts he had gotten wrong and made sure he understood the concepts."
"Today we worked on test review for the student[s upcoming test on matrices. I recommend that she review matrix multiplication and practice using row operations to solve systems and find inverses. With a little extra practice in these areas I think she will be well prepared for her tests this week."
