Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did extremely well today. We played some math games to help him sharpen how quickly he can use his math skills. We really liked a game which helped him sharpen his factoring skills. I found some other games that might be fun for him as well. I'll keep a look out for more games for him to play, but hope that these help!"
"The student did great today, especially with his signs. He says that we are done with his math work."
"The student did great today! We were preparing for her quiz tomorrow, which she knows cold by now. I told her I'm expecting no less than 100% on it, and she said, "No problem." We just made up problems for the whole session, and I threw in other concepts, and she is pretty good at handling whatever I'm sending her. We continued to work on her mental math, so she has a better feel for how the integer calculations work, and she is more comfortable with doing more in her head lately. I think she is well prepared for the quiz tomorrow!"
"The student did have a couple of questions about substitution and elimination. We worked several examples to remind him of the process. He was fine one we reviewed it. We spent the remainder of the session working on the non calculator portion of the SAT test. We finished up the one we have been working on, and I will bring a new one for next week. The student is a great kid. I am really trying to keep his attitude positive and encourage him to work hard. Good session."
"The student did much better on his last quiz, getting 15/18. The quiz consisted of 3 problems, worth 6 points each. He got full credit on 2 of the problems, and he lost 3 points on the third due to computational error. He was able to take a picture of his quiz, since he's not allowed to take it home, and we were able to go over the one he lost points on. We also worked on the homework assignment, which consisted of solving complex fractions using the LCD. At first, he wasn't sure of how to proceed with each problem. I modeled the first one, then walked him through the next few, and he was able to complete the remaining exercises independently. We then reviewed a few more problems, especially ones he has been having difficulties with. We will meet again next week before his last exam prior to the winter break."
"The student did not do very well on her recent state tests. We spent a bit of time going over reading charts and graphs, as that was one of the skill sets that she performed poorly on. We also spent some time discussing test-taking strategy. Her mom requested some supplemental work to build her skills, and I recommended that she help the student practice her skills for a few minutes each day."
