Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was our first session so we discussed her goals and what she had done up to this point. We began with math - the subject she felt was her weakest - and she did well but seemed to hesitate at where to begin solving questions. We moved onto reading which she was clearly more comfortable doing and discussed some strategies for answering accurately. Finally, she did a written prompt and we talked about how to better prepare an essay and what will contribute to raising her score in that area. To practice before next time I sent her math, reading, and another writing prompt to complete. We'll be focusing primarily on math next session."
"The student and I had an excellent first session together. We began by talking about her goals for college admissions and what she already knows about the SAT. Next, we looked through a full-length exam and discussed the SAT's structure, format, content areas, and rules for scoring. Finally, we began working on the math section together. For homework, she will read the math section of her prep book and note any terms or concepts she would like to go over together. In our next session we will continue working on the math section."
"This was my first time meeting the student. Her father wants her to start working on reading comprehension and writing skills for the SAT, even though she is only in 8th grade. I decided to go over some practice problems with her just to get a good sense of where she was at with vocabulary words and how challenging practice problems were for her at this time. The practice problems with more than basic vocab were challenging, so I will find ways to work with her on vocabulary starting now."
