"I had the student do practice sections between our last session and this one. He already saw some improvement. We went over trig identities and the law of sines/cosines, and then focused on geometry and trig-related practice problems. I've assigned a full practice test under timed, test-like conditions before our next session."
"We went through the last of the ACT Math section with the student. The main issue he's having is not with the math, it is with the equations. He needs to practice the list of equations on the ACT guide we went over. I plan on re-sending the guide so he can make notecards of the equations."
"Met with the student for our 2nd session. We continued our work on practice sections of the assessment test, focusing on reading comprehension, writing, logic, and math. I'm again struck by his aptitude in the verbal and logic portions of the test. He seems to have a firm grasp on the specific turns in each problem and finding the optimal answer (and not simply a right one, which is the key on this kind of exam). He is careful in his work. On the math side, he is very strong at his arithmetic and his problem-solving process is very sound. I do, however, feel that he sometimes tries to solve a lot of the problem in his head, rather that walking through the work on paper. He is very bright, so it often makes no difference. But on a few occasions, a visual written record of his thinking will make his work even more thorough and correct. Something to work toward."
