Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on biology topics again. We finished up on the genetics section and started on meiosis, mitosis, protein synthesis, and DNA replication. We can better evaluate what we need to review from that once some more of the practice tests are completed."
"We started with a couple of math sections. Principles illustrated included geometric ratios and using two-row tables to track functions. We then moved on to verbal problems, where vocabulary was clearly a weaker area than reading comprehension. We will continue to work on this."
"In today's session, we covered Biochem Chapters 9-10 regarding glycolysis, glycogenesis, glycogenolysis, gluconeogenesis, the Citric Acid Cycle, and the Electron Transport Chain. We then worked on two passages related to these topics. Our session was extremely productive as we covered a lot of ground. We have a good rapport going, where I ask him things I imagine will be familiar from his biochemistry class, and then we make specific MCAT material applications."
"The student and I focused on quantum. We talked about remaining topics that the student should read about and do practice problems for, including free particle, Coulomb potential, eigenproblems, orbital angular momentum, spin angular momentum, and little about perturbation theory. We went over some more practice problems. He needed help a bit with some of the basic rules about complex numbers and complex conjugation, so I'm happy we spent the time working through a problem about probability current density."
"This session was a turning point in our time together. In my expertise, the student now has the foundational skills to better work through certain kinds of GRE analytic questions. We will start looking at specific examples of these kinds of questions next session. I assigned her review homework asking her to assess inductive arguments, which we will review at the beginning of our session together. Overall, she is making excellent progress."
"Today, we went over biology, covering an overview on plants (taxonomy and cladistics, structures, and definitions), enzyme kinetics, and numerous other topics! The student then will be taking a practice exam right after!"
