Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued working on stoichiometry problems. Specifically, we worked through the instructor's review sheet for an upcoming test. The student is able to work through the problems but can still improve her confidence in tackling these types of problems. We used a "stoichiometry map" from an online resource to practice various "starting points" and "ending points" for the problems."
"Today we talked about solubility, freezing point depression, boiling point elevation, colligative properties in general, and how to write and predict net ionic equations based on the solubility of the reactive species."
"We went over different types of organic reactions - addition, subtraction, elimination, etc. We also discussed functional groups. The student has a test tomorrow so we spent time reviewing for that. I included some tips and clues she can use to differentiate between different types of reactions and gave her problems and examples to support."
"We reviewed the slides from chapter 8--the periodic table. We covered the periodic nature of the elements, how to fill s, p, d, and f orbitals with electrons, how mass, diameter, and ionic charge varies in the periodic table. The student worked a number of practice problems. He completed them with ease, demonstrating understanding of the subject."
"Today, the student and I worked on principle quantum numbers and energy differences, Planck's equation, the speed of light equation, the electromagnetic radiation energy relationship with wavelength and frequency, lasers, and approaching problems from unit cancellation perspective. The student had a solid grade on her quiz and seemed more insightful when approaching new problems."
"We began covering heat of reaction and discussing transition states. We reviewed how to set up these questions in terms of what transitions occur when and why. We will continue this discussion along with algebra 2 on Sunday."
