Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student read from the book, On Writing. He read two articles on language arts; these were about writing advertising copy and writing editorials. He also read from the book, Captains Courageous. He worked on a list of spelling words from as well. The plan is for him to use these words with a computer learning program next week."
"Today was another good session with the student! We wrapped up the section on quadrilaterals, (he got 100% on the SOL based quiz for that section!) and then moved onto rotations, translations, and reflections. We worked mostly on rotations and translations, and I'll be bringing in some graph paper next time so we can work on it further. He had a little bit of struggle with translation, but I think he will get it with some practice and pick it up quickly! For homework, I asked him to give reflection a try, even though we didn't have a chance to go through it other than a quick overview, and we will see how he does. We'll be continuing this subject next time as we will do more practice on all three. Overall, he did a really good job!"
"Today we reviewed word problems and equations with negative numbers. We also worked on science as well and created a study chart. The student was able to understand the cell structure when we drew a picture and diagram. She is going to study her math over the weekend."
"Today we went over area, perimeters, fractions, time, and started working on problems in our textbook. The student grasped area better this time and did well when we started going through the book."
"Today we worked on addition and subtraction. Student A worked on numbers up to 10, and did a few extra where the sums were more than 10. She used buttons to help her. Student B did two-digit problems, and we also talked about place values. We did a bit of regrouping. When each child wasn't working on math, they read books. Student B also read a short story and answered questions."
"Today we worked on chapter 2 of the review guide, and we completed the drill at the end of the chapter. Our next lesson will cover chapter 3, which covers number theory. The student will complete the drill at the end of the chapter for homework."
