"The student and I started with an overview of what would be on the SAT, broken down by the three sections. I also gave some general tips for test prep, test taking, time management, and memorization. She showed me her PSAT scores from when she was a sophomore. She got a 38 on Verbal, 40 on Math, and 46 on writing. We did some problems from her PSAT. We worked on sentence completions for the first half of the lesson, and math problems for the last half. She indicated that her main trouble will be time management, and the sheer length of the exam. To address that, we'll work on some timed sat sections, and try to get her used to sitting the exam. This will mean at least one full practice exam under exam conditions. The student seems to have a good handle on the material on the test, so I suspect that her main trouble is preparation and time management. We will work on that in future sessions."
"Today we covered working with complex exponents and roots. We also reviewed practice problems. In particular, we covered solving and simplifying complex roots and exponents in equations. The student has made great progress in abstract logic and critical thinking, although I notice she does struggle a little bit when working with percentages in equations, and how percentages can modify values. In general , however, she is much more confident tackling complex problems, and she makes fewer mistakes in computation than when we first started working. We also covered a little bit of the critical reading section, I would like to work with her more in deciphering the meaning of words through context clues, and she needs to continue working on vocab flashcards."
"We continued work on SAT reading and reviewing the student's homework. The student has made significant progress both on vocabulary and passage based questions. The student completed a practice SAT reading section to improve consistency of techniques."
