Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, I helped the student with a new topic in her chemistry class of the ozone layer and climate change. This involved reviewing the chapter and doing various problems. We also reviewed her previous quiz taken and determined what she got wrong and why. We then redid the quiz for an opportunity for her to gain points back."
"We covered gas laws and the Civil War. She struggled the most with converting units of measurement. She was very engaged and eager to understand confusing concepts. I used a teach-back approach to ensure that she understood the material."
"The student and I met for the first time, and we covered several topics including: empiric versus molecular formulas, molar mass, chemical equations, ionization, redox reaction definition, ideal gas law, gas stoichiometry, and briefly touched on enthalpy. He had some difficulty setting up the problems on his calculator. We addressed this."
"The student and I reviewed some problems I had given her focusing on atomic radii, ionization energies, and electron configurations for ions. She did well with the concepts and the problems! Today, we covered ionic vs covalent bonding as well as electron affinities. I introduced Lewis structures as well."
"The student and I reviewed the homework problems that I had assigned for her from the end of yesterday's session. Additionally, we took the remainder of our session to determine where she erred on her exam 2 problem set. We reviewed each one of her missed questions in detail. We are set to meet next on Tuesday."
"The student and I started with his goals for college and for chemistry prep. He hasn't decided if he wants to start with general chemistry or go into an introductory course. We discussed options for a bit before moving into some of the basic material. We began with basic conversions and units of measurement. He will need a further refresher on this topic; he had the basic idea, but we will need to practice more before we move into atomic structure."
