Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started a new assignment that melds writing with his personal interests: the personal essay. After reading an essay by Roger Ebert about his illness, the student started brainstorming for his essay about doing improv. We will continue working on this during our next session."
"I assisted the student in the completion of her homework. After completing her homework, we practiced the imperfect subjunctive tense. We spent the last few moments practicing speaking with situations from a textbook."
"I prepared a quiz for the student that covered 6.1-7.2, as well as one combination problem. The quiz actually took us the entire session, but she didn't have any homework. I let her work through as much of the quiz as she could by herself, and we talked about the problems she had trouble with. I had planned on the quiz taking us about 30 minutes, since we had already spent about 2.5 hours on the material. She and I talked at the end of the session and agreed she needed to put in more time by herself studying. She agreed she needed to put in more time, so hopefully our sessions can be more about answering questions she has."
"The student is studying 'Romeo and Juliet'. We went over Act 1, scenes 1-5, and created flashcards summarizing each scene. We discussed the themes of love and violence which are linked throughout the play. We then looked at a review worksheet from her teacher in a question and answer format."
"The past few sessions, we went over a lot. Today, I used our time to review the new verbs and adverbs, that were introduced to the student recently. I provided the framework for the sentences that she constructed last session. This time, in order to test her understanding of the words, I challenged her to come up with her own sentences using what she has learned."
"The student and I began by working through a difficult verbal reasoning practice set. He performed well on this section and we went over the few questions he missed. We then went over a number of practice quantitative reasoning practice questions. He is performing better on these questions in general. We also went over a few questions that he did not know how to solve and I illustrated the solutions in detail."
