"Today the student and I reviewed a test. The test was on acids and bases. I assigned her the chapter in her book to further solidify the concept."
"Today gave us the opportunity to review carbohydrates and glycolysis. The student has shown that he is able to accurately draw cyclic and linear monosaccharides on any quiz, which is certainly encouraging. We then proceeded to discuss glycogenesis and glycogenolysis and how they offset each other with the use of hormones and allosteric regulators. We finished the session by talking about glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. He did a much better job this time around understanding the steps of these opposing processes as well as the allosteric regulators and key enzymes. I left him with a review guide that outlines all of the key aspects of each process covered so far. He and I plan to meet next week in order to review the pentose phosphate pathway as well as the citric acid cycle."
"In this session, we reviewed a set of 84 flashcards in preparation for a chemistry exam. I enjoyed working with the because he appeared to be interested in the material at a level deeper than what is simply required for the class and he is genuinely interested in developing a conceptual framework that can be applied to new situations. As far as study skills and testing strategies are concerned, I introduced the technique of using mental visualizations in order to keep track of how different variables are related. Much of the material dealt with heat flow and its connection to phase change, and I think that a simple mental picture/example will allow him to keep everything straight. For extra practice, I recommended just doing a few sample problems to cement the sub concepts. He got a 100 on the previous quiz that we prepared for together, so I think that he is progressing nicely."
