Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student took the second practice math section from the test prep book and we reviewed that entire test section with special attention toward those that he answered incorrectly. With more practice, he is getting a better grip of some questions and we are mainly honing in on strategies of how to attack these problems. Every single topic area that is covered on ACT has been covered, but we just need to look at different ways of applying that knowledge. This week, I will send an email with some more drills to complete before we meet again next week."
"I met with Student 1 and 2 from 10-12:30. We started by reviewing strategies for the essay portion of the ACT. After that I assigned 5 essay prompts for them using the strategies we discussed and they will be emailing the essay prompts for me to review. Two of the essays are due by Sunday and I will give them feedback on them when I visit on Monday. We ended our session by working on Math strategies."
"The student took his weekly vocab quiz and only missed two words. I had him write a practice essay with the prompt, "What goes up must come down--agree or disagree." I discussed the importance of making sure your essay is on topic and making sure you have a thesis statement. I had him plan another essay to expose him to more idioms and topics and to practice coming up with examples, which he needs more work on. We worked through the algebra practice section and a sentence completion section."
"The student and I practiced a little of each test, plus a full writing test. He will score it for homework - and then we'll look at it together during our next session."
"The student and I did a quick worksheet from school about hints for flying kites. She did a pretty good job focusing. Then we read from a shorter book. For next time, we may start going over her science readings."
"Today is the first day I met with the student. We started to get to know each other, and the session started with the basic knowledge of Mandarin, learning tone. The student is smart and absorbed the knowledge very well, and she is interested in Chinese writing. I left her with an extra practice on the tone and the four basic words."
