The student and I worked on a packet demonstrating that definite integrals are defined as the area under the curve between two bounding x-values. The most emphasis was placed on computing exact areas by identifying simple geometric shapes that students know the area formulas for (triangles, trapezoids, and circles). The packet also covered situations when the curve goes below the x-axis (negative contribution to the integral).
