Today we reviewed one of the student's longer homeworks that would be due soon. The good thing about such an intensive module is that it gave him ample practice with the laws of logarithms and using logs to "cancel out" the effect of the constant "e" and other exponential expressions. I hope that the review helps him in later work, but I will verify with him on Tuesday that he was able to complete it correctly.

We also covered vector addition and subtraction, and finally did a long application problem that covered all of the topics we went over.

Today we spent almost the whole session covering exponents, especially compound interest problems. Compound interest is one of the more difficult precalculus concepts because it involves complicated exponential equations and it touches on the idea of a limit which is foundational for Calculus. The student is very inquisitive wants to challenge every mathematical rule instead of just accepting the formula, which is a great quality in a math student. She was perplexed by the idea of continuous interest, but I think by the end our meeting, she could see the logic behind it. The last two weeks, we practiced lots of logarithmic and exponential equation problems, so she has also been getting more and more proficient with those crucial tools for pre-calculus. For the next couple meetings, I plan to cover trigonometry which is one of the other core areas of precalculus.
