Session Summaries by Latin Tutors

Weston, FL Latin tutoring
The student did very well today! We worked extensively on her ongoing work on the special "Grammatical Justification" exercise, and we covered a lot of ground. That coverage gave us a chance to thoroughly review the four principals of Latin verbs and the vast amount of information those principal parts provide about any given Latin verb, to review how to grammatically determine the conjugation to which a Latin verb belongs, and to review the typical translations into English of the different tenses in the two voices. After all of that, we began our work on the "Second-Declension Nouns" explanation/exercise set. We got through a lot today! I look forward to our next session.

We reviewed the comparison of adjectives - how to form the Latin forms and how to translate. We reviewed the student's homework assignment and she sight translated various sentences and showed her mastery of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. She has always translated beautifully, and crafts her translations, and I think she feels more at ease and facile with translating now. She is a wonderful Latin student.

We reviewed the student's homework regarding the 4th and 5th declensions for tomorrow; continued our own review of past material, including the use and forms of place-names, the formation of adverbs in their positive, comparative, and superlative forms; and other adverbs not formed from adjectives (a lot of vocabulary study required for these easy-to-forget or -confuse words!). We then continued the tales of Hercules for sight translation practice. Again, the student did well.

We warmed up with a review passage about the funeral of Caesar. Next, we started to tackle some lightly modified Sallust! The student did a great job reading a completely new style of writing and seems to remember much of what we were practicing when we left off.
