Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student showed extraordinary progress today via the ACT English Diagnostic Test 3, two additional learning opportunities (Grammar / English Syntax and Usage Assignments), and ACT English Diagnostic Test 4."
"Saturday Session: - Reviewed and discussed homework (special focus on systems of equations). - Graded last 20 questions of ACT (homework from previous week). - Introduced Science section strategies. - Utilized strategies during practice science section (untimed, worked through together). - Mother updated regarding progress. - Homework: Timed Science section, finish systems of equations worksheet, Trig/Angles worksheet, Geometry section [Session Summary: The student completed the homework well, except for the systems of equations worksheet, which he notes is the subject currently being discussed in his math class and that he was unfamiliar with some of it. Extra time was spent discussing steps and tips for addressing the problems. The science section was far more promising, as he was able to utilize strategies discussed as well as deductive reasoning to eliminate answers. The biggest concern regarding the science section will be timing. I will provide him with a practice section to address this issue. Overall, he is making improvements and will benefit greatly from being shown the type of questions to expect.}"
"This was our first session, so we started by getting to know each other a little so that I could better understand her experience with the test and what she needed to work on the most. We talked about the differences between the SAT and ACT and how certain personality types are better for each test (shorter attention spans/ good at task-switching for SAT and project-oriented completionists for the ACT). Then we talked about the four different sections of the test and the different strategies that were useful for each section. After all of this, we looked at a few different math problems and talked about how to break down the more complicated problems into smaller, simpler steps. We spent a lot of time reviewing trigonometry ideas like the unit circle and the use of sine, cosine, and tangent. Next week we will go over a practice Reading section."
