Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session we continued to review ACT math. The student reviewed radians and trigonometry that we discussed last week. We also worked through difficult percent questions, ratios, and averages. He learned about the standard form for a circle and was able to apply it to new problems. The first half of each ACT section is very easy for him. The more difficult questions for him tend to relate to Algebra II (which he will take next year). He learns new concepts quickly and is able to apply them well. Next week we will do a quick review of concepts that he learned this week and then we will turn to the two remaining sections of the test: reading and science."
"We continued our review for the SAT. The sticking point for him remains grammar (by sticking point I mean the mid 600s rather than into the 700s). We need to review carefully and get a better understanding of some basics. Once he learns something, he knows it."
"The student had an essay he had done as homework, so we reviewed that first. He used relevant points and had good organization to his essay. His thesis took a side fairly clearly, but I worked with him more on making it clearer with a more specific angle. Other than that, his essay was quite strong. In the multiple choice area, we went through three sections. We went over may/might, would/will could/can, and the times to use the subject case of personal pronouns. He did very well in the final section, which boosted his confidence."
