Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I met the student today at her home. I got to know her, talked about her academic strengths and weaknesses, and worked out of her reading and mathematics workbooks. She is pretty smart and has a good grasp on the reading and math concepts involved on the tests. We went over some different strategies for grasping meaning in reading and solving particular math problems."
"The student spent most of the session working on his mapping homework. This assignment was a bit more complicated than some in the past. He had to use a scale to measure the distance between different cities in the state of Texas. Once I showed him how to use a ruler to measure the distance and then compare it to the scale, he caught on. He did well with understanding some of the trickier questions involving measuring the northern most point to southern most and where those would be. We made some progress with understanding the difference between miles and kilometers. "
"The student and I worked on calculating and evaluating two-proportion z-intervals and the student's t-test. We went through the calculations in less detail with each practice problem, as the student became more comfortable with what she needed to calculate. I think it will also be helpful to go over these concepts again during our next session."
"Today we discussed the student's previous quizzes and worked on figuring out the slope and y-intercept. We also reviewed transformations. She said she was studying for a test, so we reviewed her homework and the formulas. We worked on using the Pythagorean theorem, parallel lines, similar triangles, and calculating the volume of various 3D shapes. Overall, she did well."
"Today the student and I worked on some ways that he could slow down his reading to increase his comprehension. We read a number of things including his homework reading, some of the school's reader as well as a mystery book. He did well and I expect that he will continue to do better with comprehension as we continue our tutoring."
