Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is completing her summer reading project, so we worked on writing the final comment sections of the Facebook page she is creating."
"Today I focused on getting to know the student and figuring out a solid game plan. I identified some of her strengths and weaknesses. We decided to focus on reading and writing for future sessions, and I assigned her some homework."
"The student worked on verb tense and sentence combining. He is completing a revision and final draft of an assessment essay for homework."
"The students and I focused on reading today. We read 4 books, alternating between the two students."
"This session, the student and I worked on a politics reading and answered some questions, and he moved on to prep a theology assignment to be completed Thursday. He also took a vocab quiz I assigned him."
"As this was only our second session, I wanted to continue to gauge the student's proficiency in all the related facets of reading (i.e., spelling, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, fluency, etc.). I had him read through three different short fluency passages. I timed him each time, and then we reviewed the words he struggled with so he could get the proper pronunciation in his brain. I then gave him a short spelling test using ten words from a master second-grade list I have compiled. He got all but two words right, though we reviewed all of them to make certain he knew the proper spelling for each. Lastly, I timed him again on each of the three passages he'd read earlier. His times improved by at least 30 seconds for each. His reading speed also improved for the short book he read twice through as part of his homework/assigned reading, this time by nearly one minute. These, he said, were the best times he'd ever done on any of his take-home books."
