Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Worked with the student on preparing for the ACT. We covered basics in math, punctuation in English, basic reading techniques, and science. I assigned a small portion from each section of a practice test for her to complete by Sunday."
"The student and I started by reviewing his past vocabulary. Then, we added several more words for this week, along with the ones that he still hadn't mastered from last week. We also spent some time working with long reading passages. He's doing a good job ID'ing opinions, as well as crossing out wrong answers. He's always able to talk through his thinking process, which is good."
"Today went really well. The student had been working on a few English portions prior to our meeting and thus had several questions regarding wrong answers. We went through a few passages together and then moved on to timed passages. We went through and discussed 4 of the 5 passages from the section and discussed why certain answers were better than others. He has worked very hard and has made tremendous progress. His timing is spot on for these passages. We spent the last 5 minutes of the session discussing things for him to focus on for his test (memorizing trig equations, remembering to find the subject of a paragraph, etc.)."
"Both students are doing decent. They are at different levels, and in different areas. Today we worked on reading and they seem to have general grasp on how to approach the test. We also did word associations."
"Today, we completed several practice problems for 2D motion, solving for all variables including: final velocity, max height, max distance, time of flight, time to max altitude, height of the initial launching surface relative to ground, and relative motion of a boat to river speed."
"The student and I continued to work on her upcoming ACT. We initially went over the final two passages on the English section that we had been working on, and six of the math questions that she had done for homework. These were all difficult problems, so there was much discussion to be had. We then started to do some reading comprehension from a new test. I told her to do any work on the test that she wanted to before our next session. We will also begin with a discussion about her college essays that she wants to have."
