Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered the two assessment packets given in class. We covered The History of Life on Earth and Phylogeny and the Tree of Life. We covered how to look up answers not in textbook and which websites are better for getting the answers."
"This was a 1 hour session. We reviewed theoretical yield with my color coded system for mole to mole, mass to mole, and mass to mass conversions. She has just started a unit with a lab in acid/base buffer chemistry. We briefly discussed the dissociation of strong vs weak acids and what a buffered region and transition region are on the titration graphs. We also defined titration and discussed various types of indicators. We wrapped up with some algebra, primarily looking at the transformations of various linear and parabolic graphs as well as briefly discussing limits. She is just beginning to work with dividing polynomials. We will look to work in both subjects on a bi-monthly basis or as needed."
"The student had a review for her class that we worked through. It covered types of reactions, stoichiometry, limiting reagents, ionic compounds, and balancing chemical equations. She seems to be coming along very well. She just needs to get more practice working problems on her own. I will be sending her some more problems so that she can get that practice."
"Today, we discussed an extra credit assignment of the student's. The material was rather difficult, so I did my best to let him work through the problems as much as possible. He is still struggling with charges, so we worked on that concept quite a bit. We will do more of this assignment next time."
"Today, we covered translation initiation and elongation in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, and we began discussing the process of translation termination. We also briefly reviewed some details regarding tRNA and rRNA biogenesis, as the student has an exam coming up on Thursday. We discussed how both of us will brainstorm questions for next session. I will come up with potential questions she may see on her exam, and she will look over the material to identify any areas she feels she needs reinforcement on."
"Today, we focused mostly on AP material and the student's most recent practice test. We went through half of the multiple choice questions, discussing the ones she got wrong or did not understand. We will cover the rest of the multiple choice questions and the free response questions on Wednesday. We also went through the evolution chapter and discussed concepts like maintaining genetic variation. She understands the concepts well once we go over them."
