Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we planned to practice the material she is covering in class, including subtraction with decimals. However, we quickly realized she had a general misunderstanding of decimals and their meaning, so we re-oriented the session to understanding decimals and fractions. We did this by dividing a piece of paper first into tenths, hundredths, and then thousandths. We used this as a schematic to portray the meaning of different numbers."
"In this session, we went over more complex long division problems as well as listing the factors problems. Although she made mistakes here and there, she grasped the overall structure of answering long division questions and was able to do some of them on her own. She continued to struggle with the listing the factors problems, especially when it came to dividing a number by 2. For homework, I left her with a long division worksheet for extra practice. In the future, I plan on continuing with the same topics we discussed today so that she can get stronger and faster with answering these types of problems."
"In today's session, the student wanted to work on subtraction on his IXL website. Many of the numbers were in the billions with borrowing. He did a fantastic job! I reminded him to always look at the top numbers before starting to solve the problem to see if he needs to borrow. I also got a copy of his report card, and he said these are the best grades he has ever had! So proud of him!!!! I can tell he is gaining more confidence in his abilities!!"
"Introductory session; I established a baseline to determine the needs of the student and get to know her. She confirmed the needs that were discussed regarding her Math work. We will work on strategies to break down the concepts and make them manageable, and help her follow work through to completion once she begins. She also shared her affinity for reading and writing. She modeled her oral reading skills, and we discussed the book theme and connected the text to her life. She is an absolute delight to work with."
"It has been quite a while since I'd last worked with the student. His mother has been practicing his addition with him and it shows. He did very well with his adding homework and practice."
"It was a pleasure working with the student today. I helped her with math homework and reading homework. Although I helped her with rounding numbers, I realized that she needs help with subtraction and borrowing. Her reading was fluent, and she wrote in complete sentences. Her progress report showed that she was a good student."
