Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Sigmatropic rearrangements, Huckel vs Mobius and the transition states, benzene ring nomenclature, E/Z and S/R review, multiple Diels-Alder practice problems, and more review."
"The student and I covered the gamut of Orgo I today in preparation for her final ACS exam tomorrow. We did Newman projections, Fischer projections, elimination reactions (E2), electrophilic addition reactions, carbonyl reduction reactions (metal hydrides, bulky hydrides) and other concepts. Tomorrow she will take her final, hoping for the best."
"We went over a review sheet for the concepts that will be covered on his test, including nucleophilic substitution and elimination."
"We covered material for her lab. We reviewed the lab, discussed pre and post lab questions, and covered mechanisms and reactions involved."
"Today we covered elimination reactions and the reaction conditions which select either E1 or E2 pathways. We also covered the competition between substitution and elimination reactions and discussed the reaction conditions that favor each as well. We reviewed some specific questions the student had been given by her professor and generally reviewed for her exam on Thursday."
"We covered her most recent chapter on amine synthesis practicing the Gabriel synthesis mechanism, Hofmann elimination and major/minor product formed, and reactions using a diazonium salt. We also practiced some problems on aldol condensation and Claisen condensation. She was struggling with some of the new amine material mechanisms and forgot the first step of an aldol condensation, but quickly remembered when I showed it to her. She was appreciative of the material we covered today. We will have a couple more sessions before her exam."
