Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student S and I first played "tangram" where we reviewed and practiced saying colors and names of animals, then we read several pages of the animal book where she practiced saying numbers, animals, as well as reading along the texts. We also read the "map board" where she learned how to say China and Russia. It was a very productive day. Student A joined later. We played magnets while reviewing some dialog. We also played with a bug. He kept asking lots of questions which was great, I think he understands more than he can say. At the end I let them watch a few animation trailers they liked. Good class together!"
"At the beginning of the session, I asked the student to review her notes from previous sessions and feel free to ask me if she had questions. Then we went over vocabulary in a chapter. I covered the meanings and asked her to read out aloud and tell me the meanings. If she could not translate, I would use the target language to help her recall. I also introduced several country names and American city names in Chinese. She took the initiative to write them all down."
"Today we started with 10-15 minutes of conversation practice using the verbs quedar saber and conocer. Next we did a brief overview of reflexive verbs and the difference between indirect object pronouns and reflexive pronouns. We did several practice problems with reflexive verbs. Additionally we learned about the verbs used in Spanish to describe "to become" and we also did practice problems with these verbs. We finished up with a review of the present perfect and how to create the past participle. We also did a set of practice problems with the present perfect."
"The student had a quiz the following day, so we went over the subject of the quiz, primarily verb use, irregular verbs, and conjugations. We tried a bit of a different way of thinking about things today, instead looking at some more basic components and discussing how to properly use plurals with verbs and the components of an infinitive verb. He just needs to keep practicing as that's the best method to solidify what we've worked on."
"We reviewed the 3 groups of stem shoe verbs. I corrected the grammar exam from last week. We defined stem shoe verbs using the present tense and practiced vocabulary terms given for the week. I created some stem shoe exercises to assist the student on her understanding. The lesson went very well. She was able to identify the three groups of the stem shoe verbs and conjugate them correctly."
"We have already covered all the Pinyin basics on tones, initials, and finals. The student has a good foundation on Mandarin learning, and I believe after one or two more classes, he will have a good pronunciation."
