Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We had a considerable amount of discussion around trigonometric functions that included graphical transformations."
"We reviewed last week's homework, which the student had learned more about in class, and performed well. Began new work on Descartes' method and synthetic division for finding roots, and upper and lower bounds. She did very well, and should be prepared for this week's quiz. I left her with some tips and suggestions for completing the homework and doing extra example problems to reinforce the methodology."
"The student and I looked over power functions and variation today. She did not have much trouble picking up the concepts."
"The student has a test coming up, so today, we are reviewing. She solved trig equations. To help her along with these questions, I had her replace the trig identity with the letter m so that she would be able to see it more clearly. Once she saw the pattern, she was fine. I assigned problems for her to do either tonight or tomorrow, and I will see on Tuesday how it goes."
"The student did her homework problems regarding simplifying trigonometric expressions and using laws of sines/ cosines in various geometry problems. I advised her to simplify every trig expression into their sine/ cosine forms as the first step in making complicated expressions more manageable. I also told her which cases would be better suited to the law of cosines and which to the law of sines. In the end, she covered her current homework and outlined some pointers for the next topic/ set of homework problems."
"The topics covered included division of polynomials through long division and synthetic division. The student did very well with the latter but needed a bit more practice before he got long division. We also went over finding the zeros of a polynomial using these methods."
