"Today we continued working on test prep, with a focus on grammar, punctuation and mechanics. We reviewed subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, adjectives/ adverbs, and commonly misused words. The student then completed a short check for understanding worksheet, and we ended with a practice set in the test study book. He has a worksheet to complete before our next session where he needs to rewrite sentences with all errors corrected. I will review his practice set results and create flashcards for commonly misused words so he can practice between sessions. He needs to continue practicing and reviewing these concepts to fully retain the nuances."

"The student is improving on letter recognition. She knows about 25% of the letters of the alphabet. She is doing great with numeral recognition and writing the digits 0-10. She is starting to add with objects, and really seems to be getting that concept."

"We had an excellent session. The student had a great attitude and read really well. He had obviously studied his words and worked hard to get them right through knowing the rules of their spelling. We used his homework book to look for the different ways long vowel sounds are spelled, and he identified them all correctly. Now he has a new book to read for homework, and he must do the same thing with this book: count up all the different ways that each long vowel sound is made, and how many times each spelling word appears in the book."

"It is so nice to see the student feeling more confident about himself! Every time I meet with him he reads louder and prouder. Today he focused on the pronunciation of letters in words. This is a good sign of his being eager to learn. We also answered questions on two passages. We took turns reading paragraphs again for fluency. We discussed why we chose the answers we did, and I changed his mind on two of the answers. He is working hard to become a successful scholar! "
