Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked to cover about half of the topic areas for his upcoming final examination in his College Algebra class. He struggled with some but was able to do all of the types of problems we worked on by the end (rational and quadratic inequalities, synthetic division, and asymptotes). With practice, I think he will do well."
"The student completed his last two homework assignments, which were an application of integration to continuously compounding interest. At first he didn't know how to start the problems or what they were asking, but he was able to do them on his own by the end of the session."
"The student had a quiz today over 1st and 2nd derivative tests, and he wanted us to review a few questions that gave him trouble. So we went over the 2nd derivative test, and solved the test questions. Since the student has a final in 2 weeks, we'll try to meet twice next week if possible, just to make sure he's prepared to do really well on the upcoming final."
"The student had an assignment over trigonometric identities, which we were able to review. He expected to have a quiz in the days before break, so we spent time going over how to approach the problem types he would likely see. He felt confident at the end of our session."
"The student had done a comprehensive review of the chapters covered in her course this semester, and identified the ones that she wanted a refresher on. We covered those topics, from limits through derivatives, to advanced applications of derivatives. She has a much more solid understanding of the theory now, and we have begun applying that to different types of questions that her teachers have used in the past, and are likely to use on her final exam."
"The student had just a single question with a single homework problem. Once she recognized the mistake, she was able to get the correct answer almost immediately. The mistake simply involved distributing a factor of 1/2 across both terms after integrating by parts."
