Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I started working on chapter 5 today. We worked on solving systems of linear equations with 2 variables through substitution or addition. We also worked on solving systems of equations with 3 variables."
"Today we finished the Test for chapter 5. After finishing the test, we completed the three sections for Chapter 6 and took the chapter quiz. Finally, we were able to complete two more sections of the 7th chapter. We will have one of our final tutoring sessions tomorrow."
"The student and I went over her homework on quadratics. I taught her how to solve for the critical points of a graph with several methods (graphing, factoring, quadratic formula, and vertex form). I also gave her some extra practice with factoring because she was doing well on the homework."
"The student decided that he wanted to practice the essay part of the test section first. We discussed scoring and general essay writing. We proofed an essay that had already been written and decided what was strong and weak on that essay. We discussed the format of the essay. The student decided to try one for himself. He wrote for about 30 minutes and he did fantastic! His thesis sentence was strong. His supporting paragraphs were concise and he used numerous examples to support his stance. We then dove into Science. We practiced numerous portions in which he did quite well. I gave him an essay and Science homework along with two internet sites to use to study. We will meet again on Monday."
"We reviewed problems from chapters 7 and 8, which involved work, energy, and power. The hardest question involved calculating the work of a variable force by using an integral. There was a little misunderstanding between the formulas to use when work is constant and when work is variable."
"The session covered sorting and searching algorithms and a homework that dealt with sorting and searching algorithms. The specific searching algorithms discussed were linear search and binary search. The sorting algorithm was selection sort. We dealt with sorting multidimensional arrays and benchmarking search algorithms."
